Painting a Map with Brush Presets

Software: Using Adobe Photoshop
Note: You may Google search to find many tutorials on the topic

Creating fantasy maps can be time consuming. Photoshop has some tricks that will allow you to make this process much quicker.

By creating your own custom brush presents you will be able to 'paint' your maps quicker.

Start off by using a blank canvas in photoshop. I used a 600px x 600px with 1000 resolution.

I find it helpful to use a scan and a drawing tablet to create more elaborate brushes. For this tutorial I will show you the process. (That is my way of saying it will not be pretty).

Now. Use the brush tool and draw to brush that you will want to use. For this example I will us a simple tree.

Make a selection of the brush that you just created.

Click "Edit" on the toolbar. Scroll down to define brush present and name your brush.

Now select your brush and use it as desired.

You can see how a map can be "painted" with features quickly. Later on in this series I will show you how to create more elaborate looking brushes for your map making.
